The 5 Best Beaches in Phuket

the 5 best beaches in phuket

Phuket gets quite a bad rap due to Patong and the surrounding areas as I discuss in my Phuket Travel Guide, but there is so much more to the island, including a number of stunning beaches. I went on a motorbike ride one day with a friend who took me to 5 gorgeous beaches, all of which I recommend. In general, you’ll pay about 100 baht for a sun lounger and umbrella however, all of the beaches are sand, so I would just recommend laying your towel down and taking it all in, but this is obviously up to personal preference. Here are my 5 recommendations for the best beaches in Phuket in no particular order:

Surin Beach

This is where I stayed during my visit to Phuket. If you like surfing, I would recommend coming here. There are tons of restaurants nearby as well if you get hungry or thirsty throughout the day. You can also see some incredible sunsets from this beach or any of these beaches really!

Bangtao Beach

Make sure you go north a bit to get away from where the fishing boats dock up (further up from Bluesiam Beach Club). If you want to witness an incredible sunset at a laid-back reggae bar, make sure you visit Easy bar, a little shack on the beach selling cheap beers and a few cocktails.

Layan Beach

Long stretches of white sand and blue water. I visited in October just before high season and there was barely anyone around. This is also where Dream Beach Club is located. If this were in Ibiza, it would cost an arm and a leg, but due to the low key location entry is free and as far as I know, there is no minimum spend for a sun lounger or cabana! There is also a gorgeous pool to enjoy if you want to take a break from the ocean.

Banana Beach

This is a beautiful hidden beach just a few minutes south of Naithon Beach. Nestled at the bottom of a small cliff, you’ll have to climb down a set of steps to get there. It’s quite small and quiet since it’s location is slightly secluded.

Naithon Beach

Again, a very quiet beach with long stretches of white sand and also quite good for surfing. This was probably one of my favourites. It was super quiet, had fun waves for body surfing, and there were a few bars and restaurants nearby.
